BAE Batteries GmbH supports Engineers Without Borders solar power project in Sierra Leone

The non-profit aid organization Engineers Without Borders eV focuses primarily on solving engineering tasks in developing countries. The developing country of Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world and Engineers Without Borders are therefore supporting a vocational school in Kamakwie with the construction of a solar power system. In this training center, around 180 students are trained in various trades (bricklayers, carpenters, weavers).

The aim of the project is to provide the classrooms with light until the evening hours and to operate a small computer room with 5 computers, thus significantly improving the current training conditions on site.

We at BAE support the non-profit project with a maintenance-free 24V 4 x 6 PVV 420 solar battery optimized for photovoltaic applications. With the system, we and other project partners want to improve the lack of power supply and ensure a continuous supply of electricity.

An uninterrupted power supply is extremely important, especially in regions that are very difficult to access, such as Sierra Leone, since it is difficult to obtain spare parts and the necessary maintenance personnel. For this reason, another project goal is to train both students and teachers in the use and operation of the system and to be able to operate the system independently in the future. The training of the students and teachers on site was taken over by Engineers Without Borders.
